Chucho
Chucho by no means had an interest in becoming a tattooist. The idea of tattooing was first introduced in 1990 by a friend that liked the “L.A. cholo black & gray style”. This lead to experimentation with a home made machine. As for the results, NOT SO GREAT! This was a bad idea. This turned him off from further pursuing the idea of tattooing. Until meeting Jess from JESS’S FINE LINE TATTOOS. Jess invited him up to the shop & this changed his thoughts about tattooing & the great possibilities the industry offered. As he flip through tattoo magazines & saw the work of tattoo artists such as Filip Leu, Jack Rudy, Brain Everett, & Paul Booth he knew he wanted to be part of the industry. Apprenticing under Jess Casson at JESS’S FINE LINE TATTOOS in Joliet, IL. Chucho has been tattooing professionally since 1994.

Chucho has met numerous gifted tattooists as well as worked with some of the best over the course of his career. The approach that has been taken when working on skin has created a better understanding of the craft.. These new theories have become apparent over the course of time then prior years. The execution of these theories is practice in his new work. “What most interests me in tattooing and what drives me to keep tattooing is the use of contrast, distribution of black within a design, line work, the over-all flow of the tattoo in relation to the body, but yet at the same time simplifying the design to read well & hold up to the test of time." At times it’s not about how much one can squeeze into an area & overwhelm the eye, but rather leave out & make it work well”. These are ideas that are easily forgotten with modern tattooing.  Chucho does not have a particular style of tattooing, He enjoys working on designs that incorporate these specific elements with a result of a finished product that has a pleasant balance.

OWEN JENSEN & CLIFF RAVEN are tattooists Chucho admires. OWEN JENSEN’S flash is some of his favorite. “There is such a raw vigorous feeling to his designs. Well composed & very clean. The designs are true to the history of tattooing, but yet not commercial as some of the tattooist that were to follow.” CLIFF RAVEN’S work was just so ahead of his time and that’s all that needs to be said!

“I would just like to Thank all the people I have met along the way & had the opportunity to exchange ideas to better help my advancement in the industry. Everyone has been an inspiration & teacher to some degree.”

The Great Zabala
George Zabala

George started off much like any other artist, drawing at a very young age. He practiced his art constantly drawing comics and cartoon characters, and graduating to more detailed images as his art progressed. At the age of 12, George did his very first tattoo, and has been in love with decorating peoples bodies with ink ever since. His career started off slowly, until he found ways to network, and meet new artists. In 2006 George began working at Westside Customs, which is now Ace of 4 Hearts Tattoo Studio. George loves all forms of art, but excels in Traditional, and Black and Grey.
